Pangæa exerciseThis exercise takes students through the history of the formation of our continents as tectonic plates moved apart from the one original landmass, Pangæa. See Chapter 1, Whales in the Classroom Presents: Oceanography Whales and plankton exerciseThe potential wealth of life from the seas is almost incomprehensible in its variety and numbers. This exercise examines one aspect of that life, plankton, and looks at the numbers of these tiny animals it takes to sustain animals near the top of the food chain: the whales. See Chapter 5, Whales in the Classroom Presents: Oceanography Ocean food web exerciseThe tiniest, microscopic animal and the greatest, invincible predators of the oceans are all woven together into highly complex, interdependent food webs that determine the population and variety of the world's oceans. These relationships are important to understand, because they give some insight into the responsibilities imposed by the single most dominant animal in the world's ecology: human beings. See Chapter 7, Whales in the Classroom Presents: Oceanography Whale migration exerciseWhales are known to cover enormous distances as they move from different, seasonal ideals in search of their needs for breeding, travel, and food. This exercise takes students along the annual migration of the northern pacific blue whale. See Chapter 3, Whales in the Classroom Presents: Getting to Know the Whales.
